The United States Census projects that by
the year 2030, more than 21% of the nation's population
will be age 65 or older. By the year 2050, when the
last of the baby boomers will reach 85, it is estimated
that there will be 5.1 million people age 85 and over
.We know these projections will bring new and expanding
challenges that will require new and expanded efforts.
We must be ready to meet the growing and diverse needs
of a growing and diverse senior population.
"Service Together" is our theme for the future.
Plans for new and expanded partnerships with businesses
and corporate communities are under development, as are
joint efforts with the health community. Our positive
role and impact on the local economy and on economic
development will become a key message.
Continued emphasis will be placed on improved
computerization and technology to expand staff time
spent with consumers and their families. Enhanced
interactive use of our Internet web page will be
developed.
We expect the expanding in-home care initiatives of
the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, such as the
Medical Assistance Waiver Program, to have significant
impact on our present core system, building upon our
assessment and care management capabilities and on our
credibility as an agent of the public trust.
Our new meal production and distribution facility now
gives us the capacity to expand meal production and to
seek other funding sources and service opportunities.
Wellness, health promotion, and disease prevention
efforts will continue to have emphasis through our
PrimeTime Health program and through senior centers.
Likewise, recognizing the coming of age of the Baby
Boomers, we will experiment with new service concepts to
these new and young retirees. The look and feel of
senior centers will change to accommodate and appeal to
a different generation of consumers.
Our plan is to also become the premier provider for
information and referral to individuals, groups, and
employers. Marketing the national accreditation of our
INFO-LINK program from the Alliance for Information and
Referral Services (http://www.airs.org/aboutairs/about_accreditation.asp)
will not go unnoticed.
We have seen and expect to continue to see charitable
support grow in response to our multiple approaches.
The important impact of the growing number of benevolent
gifts will become more clear in future years as we
supplement existing service efforts to create new ones.
"Commitment to Community" is one of our Guiding
Principles and it has continued to clearly set our
course as we advance. There has never been a more
opportune time for us to serve, to serve more, and to
serve better. While the future surely holds many
challenges, it also offers a world of opportunities for
creative and innovative responses to the needs of the
older residents of Clearfield County. |
