Our Present...

The original core of services from nearly 30 years ago still continue today but look quite different.  For example, we now see bar coding in senior centers that lessens staff paper work and increases time with consumers, and provides accurate reporting of services.  Likewise, bar coding is also being used in our Meals on Wheels & More Program with accurate and real-time counting of service levels, in contrast to the monthly paper reports of year past.

The AAA was repeatedly successful in securing Senior Center Capital Assistance grants.  As a result, a new center for active living was constructed in the Kylertown area and the centers in Burnside, Coalport, DuBois, and Karthaus were also renovated.

In-home programs such as Meals on Wheels & More, Personal Care, the Family Caregiver Support Program, and the PDA Medical Assistance Waiver Program, along with other options, have become the largest focus of what we do in our efforts to enable individuals to remain in their homes longer and to provide them with alternative choices when institutional care must be considered.

In 2005 we constructed a new meal production and distribution facility located in the Clearfield Technology Park.  This large modern site came about as a result of a long and arduous but highly productive examination of our growing Meals on Wheels & More Program.  The decision to build a new efficient facility with ample land for traffic flow and with potential to accommodate future growth was based on the recognition that we had to be ready to meet the growing needs of a growing elderly population.

We are also serving a growing number of adults age 18 and over who are challenged with disabilities.  Likewise, our involvement with, and support for, advocates for persons with disabilities has and continues to grow tremendously.

The agency's Protective Services Program has grown and become more sophisticated.  We just completed our fourth Elder Abuse Public Education initiative through special funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.  Our Protective Services staff remains on the cutting edge with continuous training on criminal law and the latest techniques in investigations and documentation.

Other staff also remain dedicated to continuing their skills and education through certificate and graduate programs.

The Agency also serves as a site for a statewide telephone hotline (a telecenter) for the APPRISE health insurance counseling program answering questions and calls from across the Commonwealth.

One of our proudest accomplishments is our INFO-LINK program.  A comprehensive computerized database of services, benefits, and resources, INFO-LINK now serves as the only existing information and referral system of this type in this region of the state.
